Luck Beats Skill Every Time

Friday I opted to go golfing while the rest of the family went to see a movie. And as luck would have it, on the 3rd hole I miss hit the ball. As it launched toward the green I commented that I didn't get it all... but Vern said it still may get there. The line was pretty good... and as it bounced before landing on the green, it then continued to roll towards the hole. Then as I watched the ball disappeared! It was a hole in one! My first ever. In over 30 years of chasing that little white ball around the golf course this was my first time to get a hole in one.
Fortunately I had two witnesses, neither of which had seen a hole in one before and were happy to sign my scorecard and attest to the event. Vernon Moeller was from near Anchorage Alaska, and Todd Hurt was from Boise Idaho. Why doesn't this ever happen to me when there is free car or somehing?
In fact, as tradition has it, the recipient of a hole in one is expected to buy drinks for everyone in the club house after. This could be expensive, if it happens on during men's night and the clubhouse is full of guys. However, only one of my two playing partners could even stay for a drink, so I got off lucky this time.
After the round we went into the club house and the golf pro asked me if I had a computer and could register the Hole In One online? He told me that I would need to know the club I used, the make of golf ball, what hole it happened on and how far it was. Pretty easy stuff. He said the Ping Golf club guys may send me a golf hat... and the Top Flite ball makers may send me some golf balls.
So, when I got back to the condo I registered the event online. Lest I feel too special, the website told me that there had already been 22,411 hole in ones registered!
